Serge Lutens began his career in beauty, first as a hair stylist and later as a makeup artist and photographer. He eventually created makeup, hairstyles, and jewelry for Vogue magazine and collaborated with other fashion magazines through the 1960s. From 1967 to 1980, Lutens developed makeup products for Christian Dior and then entered a collaboration agreement with Shiseido in 1980. The fragrance line launched in 2000, with Shiseido acquiring the trademark rights in 2016 and Lutens remaining involved as creative director.
